3-5 years

Our 3-5 preschool program allows for a significant amount of self-directed play and exploration using both our indoor and outdoor classrooms. While our play- and project-based activities incorporate early reading, writing, and math skills, we strongly believe in the importance of allowing your child to "be a child". Research has shown that play is a key factor across areas of development, as well as an important indicator of success in school.  According to Vygotsky, "A child's greatest achievements are possible in play, achievements that tomorrow will become her basic level of real action." As part of our program, we provide experiences that are tailored to encourage your child's natural growth and development.

Examples of Key Areas of Development for Children Ages 3-5 years:

  • Cognitive: classifies objects; completes puzzles; spatial memory
  • Communication: understands plurals and past tense; answers what/where/when questions
  • Social-Emotional: cooperative play; friendship-seeking behavior
  • Adaptive: toilet trained; uses utensils correctly; washes hands
  • Motor: alternates feet up and down steps; throws and catches balls; climbs up and down
  • Pre-Academic Skills: identifies colors, letters, and numbers; understands
  • one-to-one correspondence; matches/groups objects
